Surface Reconstruction from Unstructured Data Points (A Review)
نویسندگان
چکیده
The field of surface reconstruction has been steadily evolving for the past couple of years. The inclusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a one more step to attain the efficiency and accuracy. Some previous studies on surface reconstruction with unstructured data always point out the issue of how to restructure the scattered data point. Another issue is on the complexity of the algorithm that has been used and the time needed during the process. This study presents a review on surface reconstruction development, and will suggest an alternative method that could provide more efficient solutions for re-constructing the scattered data points.

Automatic Reconstruction of Unstructured 3 DData : Combining a Medial
This paper presents a new method that combines a medial axis and implicit surfaces in order to reconstruct a 3D solid from an unstructured set of points scattered on the object's surface. The representation produced is based on iso-surfaces generated by skeletons, and is a particularly compact way of deening a smooth free-form solid. The method is based on the minimisation of an energy represen...
متن کاملA Dynamic Surface Reconstruction Framework for Large Unstructured Point Sets
We present a method to reconstruct simplified mesh surfaces from large unstructured point sets, extending recent work on dynamic surface reconstruction. The method consists of two core components: an efficient selective reconstruction algorithm, based on geometric convection, that simplifies the input point set while reconstructing a surface, and a local update algorithm that dynamically refine...
متن کاملThe Self-organzing Approach for Surface Reconstruction from Unstructured Point Clouds 167 the Self-organzing Approach for Surface Reconstruction from Unstructured Point Clouds
Surface reconstruction from a point cloud is very useful in many different application areas, such as manufacturing (Bernardini et al., 1999), cultural heritage (Bernardini et al., 2002) and medicine (Satava & Jones, 1998). Surface reconstructions methods aim to create digital models to reproduce an object shape given a set of points sampled from its surface using 3D scanning technology. Surfac...
متن کاملFilling missing data in point clouds by merging structured and unstructured point clouds
Point clouds arising from structured data, mainly as a result of CT scans, provides special properties on the distribution of points and the distances between those. Yet often, the amount of data provided can not compare to unstructured point clouds, i.e. data that arises from 3D light scans or laser scans. This article hereby proposes an approach to extend structured data and enhance the quali...
متن کاملAutomatic Reconstruction of Unstructured 3D Data: Combining Medial Axis and Implicit Surfaces
This paper presents a new method that combines the use of medial axis and implicit surfaces in order to reconstruct a 3D solid from an unstructured set of points sampled on its surface. The proposed method uses implicit iso-surfaces generated by ponctual skeletons, that are a particularly compact way of defining a smooth free-form solid. As in a previous work 19 the principle is the minimizatio...
